We are all being constantly bombarded with the new buzz words of 'Social Media' - but what exactly does this mean?  Over the next few months I will explain some of the benefits of blogging and how you should start to link this into your marketing strategy.  This series of articles, outlines the basic types of 'Social Media' and how they are replacing more traditional types of 'paid' advertising.

I will start with Blogs - if you are a newbie to this word, then I will briefly explain what a blog is.  You have to imagine that the blog has replaced your good old faithful diary - in so much that a blog is now the place you can air your news, daily habits, where you have been, what you had for lunch etc, etc, etc to the world?  Hum, yes that does sound scary for some of us who perhaps have very run-of-the-mill lives, but unlike the diary (which perhaps kept your secrets and opinions tightly locked away), a blog has the potential to be seen and heard by millions of people.  Now who would of thought of the recent case of a 9 year old girl who kept a blog about her school lunch, rating each meal - could have caused such outcry?  She was banned from airing her views about her lunch by her local council, but after thousands of replies and protests, this ruling was overturned.  So you can see just how such a simple blog can really change an outcome and creat puplic uproar!!

To be a 'good' blogger, you will need to ensure that you are regularly posting interesting and new blogs - if you are posting a blog for your company, then this needs to have content relevant for your business and can also have a 'fun' element too.  Once readers have found your blog and 'like' what they read, they will hopefully post a reply to you and you will then start to build up inbound links to your website, which is all good news for Google rankings and your new Social Media strategy.

You have to consider this a free way of creating traffic to your website, but like most things - blogging can take a while to become established on your website and to build up a heathly bunch of followers.
